Denmark's Crown Prince Frederik has brought a toothy new presence to the waters of Sydney Harbour. The 36-year-old, who begins an official visit to Australia next week, showed off his shark body art while getting in some sailing practise around Rushcutters Bay and Sydney Heads.
Frederik got the tattoo, which is the insignia of the Danish Navy's elite frogman corps, back in his military days. He also has the nickname his fellow recruits gave him – Pingo - emblazoned across his left bicep.
The handsome royal will be hoping to prove just as deadly when he takes part in the Farr 40 world title race. He won't be the only predator cutting through the waves, however, as a roll-call of Olympians and America's Cup winners are likewise preparing to join the regatta.
Regardless of how he and his crewmates fare in the competition, it seems likely Frederik will remain a favourite in the public's eyes. Ever since his wedding to local girl Mary Donaldson last May he has been popular figure in Australia. So even if his yacht Nanoq doesn't take victory, he and his wife are sure to receive a winning welcome when they kick off their Down Under tour next week.
